We've tried to answer any questions you might have but if there's something we haven't covered just drop an email to info@cumbriacampervans.com and we will get right back to you. We want to make your Campervan experience as fun and enjoyable as possible so just let us know if you have any other requests or need advice on some cool places to visit or stay.

Booking

Do I need to make a deposit for the booking?

At the time of booking a 50% non-refundable, non-transferrable booking deposit is payable by bank transfer to secure the booking, we will send you email confirmation of the booking when payment has been received. The balance is payable four weeks before the first day of hire. If you are making a booking within four weeks of hire then the full amount is payable.

What if we have to cancel our trip?

If you cancel between four weeks and two weeks prior to the start of the hire then the booking deposit is retained, if cancellation is made less than two week prior to the start of the hire then the full hire amount will be retained.

Can I pay by card?

We prefer bank transfers as most people are up to speed with online banking. Please let us know if you prefer to pay by card.

Collection

What time can we collect the Campervan?

Collection is between 2pm and 5pm and the Campervan must be returned by 11am on the return date. There is a £40 charge per hour if the vehicle is returned after the agreed time. Please allow an hour at collection for administration and for us to show you all the features. Our collection location is at Cockermouth.

What’s included in the hire?

The Campervan comes with everything you need to hit the road including cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery and gas for the cooking hobs. There’s a water supply for washing, two fold-away seats and table and electric hook-up cable.

All you need to bring is food, drinking water, bedding and towels. The Campervan will be supplied full of fuel and needs to be returned full.

Where can I leave my car?

There is room to park your car at our HQ but we accept no liability for any loss or damage to your vehicle.

Drivers

Who can drive the Campervan?

Drivers must be aged between 30 and 70, have held a full UK or EU driving licence for a minimum of two years. They must have no more than six penalty points over two convictions (a maximum of three points per conviction), must not have been involved in more than one fault incident within the last three years and must not have had their licence suspended within the last three years. More info here.

When collecting the vehicle, all drivers must present their valid UK or EU driving licence, two utility bills providing proof of address (dated within three months of the hire date) and a valid DVLA check code. Only drivers named on our rental agreement may drive.

If you are unable to produce the required documentation or have not paid the security deposit at the point of collecting the vehicle, it will not be possible to proceed and the booking will be cancelled.

Insurance

How does the insurance work?

Fully comprehensive insurance is included in the price. Before collecting the vehicle, we need to take a £600-£750 refundable security deposit to cover any damage to the Campervan and its contents. This is also used to pay the insurance excess in the event of a claim.

What does the security deposit cover?

The security deposit is held to cover any damage, the insurance excess, lost keys and any other charges such as:

  • Fuel refill: if it’s not returned full of fuel then we will charge the cost of fuel plus an extra £20 for filling it up.

  • Cleaning fee: if the Campervan isn’t returned clean and tidy then we can charge a £90 valeting fee.

  • Late return: £40 per hour can be charged if the Campervan is returned late.

If the Campervan is returned with no damage, clean and on-time, then the security deposit is refunded within three working days.

Can I take it abroad?

Yes, but you need to let us know first as we need to arrange additional cover. There will be an additional fee of £10 per day to cover extended insurance and breakdown cover and we will provide you with a European pack including safety equipment.

Problems

What if it breaks down?

In the event of a breakdown, please call the breakdown service using the details we will provide and notify us as soon as possible.

What if I have an accident?

In the event of an accident you should make no admission of fault or liability. Please contact us immediately and inform the police if required. You should collect names and addresses of any third parties and witnesses along with vehicles details, registration number and insurance details of any third party.

You should take photographs of the accident and any relevant evidence that could help and complete an accident report form.

Responsibility

Are pets allowed?

One small pet is allowed in the pet friendly Campervan on the understanding that extra care is taken regarding damage to seats and keeping the Campervan clean. There is an additional cleaning fee of £15 if you bring a pet.

Are there any rules to follow?

Yes, but it’s all common sense. You aren’t allowed to smoke in the Campervan or under the awning or drive it while under the influence of drugs or alcohol obviously.

You can’t take it off-road or to festival events without checking with us first. Please don't light a fire or BBQ under the awning, ensure you fill the vehicle with diesel and follow all safety guidelines when operating the Campervan and its equipment.
